Central New York Rules the College Lacrosse World

Congratulations to the 2004 Division I Lacrosse Men's Champion Syracuse Orange and the 2004 Division II Lacrosse Men's Champion Le Moyne Dolphins.

Syracuse won it's ninth NCAA lacrosse championship, getting five assists from Mike Powell and overcoming a gritty effort by Navy in a 14-13 victory Monday.

In the Division II Championship on Sunday, Junior Brandon Spillett, the championship game Most Outstanding Player, scored 44 seconds into the second overtime to lift Le Moyne to an 11-10 win over Limestone. Spillett scored seven goals to lead the Dolphins (16-0) to their first national championship in any sport.

MEB (Not) This Weekend

Looking forward to a fun Memorial Day Weekend? We are, too, 'cause we have the weekend off. Unfortunately, you won't have a chance to catch us playing, but we hope you have a great time, anyway.

We did want to thank everyone that made it out for our 6th Anniversary Bash last Friday @ Buffalo's. We had a wonderful time and hope you did, too. You can see a photo gallery from the evening here.

And next weekend you'll have two chances to see us, both outside in the beautiful Central NY summer sun.

Friday night, June 4 you'll find us at one of our favorite spots, the Brae Loch Inn in lovely Cazenovia. We play outside on the lawn from 7-11, and we always appreciate the great buffet spread laid out by Jim and Val. You'll love it, too.

Saturday June 5 we've been invited to perform an acoustic set at the Taste of Syracuse downtown in Clinton Square. We'll be featured on the West Stage from 7-10 PM. It's a great party with lots of food, crafts, and entertainment. Admission is free, just "pay as you eat!" Visit www.tasteofsyracuse.com for more information.

Enjoy your extended weekend!

We love baseball, too.

It was a serious hit parade in the major leagues yesterday, and many of our favorite teams were involved. Carlos Peña had 6 hits in the Tigers 17-7 pounding of the Royals, Derek Jeter and Hideki Matsui had 3-hit nights in the Yankees 18-5 rout of the Orioles, and Jason Varitek and the Red Sox were on the short end of a 15-2 laugher at the hand of the A's.

Tigers 17, Royals 7
Yankees 18, Orioles 5
A's 15, Red Sox 2

IOTA, Ten Years Old and Counting

On our D.C. area trip a couple of months ago, we really enjoyed opening for Last Train Home at this incredible club in Arlington, VA. With a very musician friendly atmosphere and one of the coolest, hippest vibes anywhere, this place is one of our favorites. We couldn't have had a better time.

Here's a quote in the article from Eric Brace, lead singer for Last Train Home.

"In its small-club way, IOTA straddles that line between a really comfortable neighborhood bar and a really great showcase club without sacrificing anything to be the best of both worlds."

Time for new look

The MEBlog has been active for just over a month now, and it was time to update our look. Blogger just added a whole bunch of new features and templates for us to use, so we've made the switch.

Only one bad thing: in switching to the new system for comments, we've lost all the comments that had already been posted. Bummer. If you want, you can go back and recreate comments you left in the past. Otherwise we'll just soldier on and move forward.

One of the most fun parts of this is hearing your comments. We post this stuff to get the discussion going, then count on you to take off with it.

If there is anything in particular that you like or dislike about the MEBlog, please let us know. We want to make this as fun and interesting and thought-provoking as we can for you.

Is this thing on??

Just joined the MEB ranks of those who can Blog. Thanks to all for a great anniversary party. Thank you Ms. Aguilera & three jumps for joy for the glo sticks!

A BIG THANKS!

As Paul said below....What a party. Just want to thank all for coming out to Buffalo's and supporting us so much over the 6 years of MEB!

A great time had by all....

Now that was a great party ...

Rockin' like a 6-year old!

Thanks to everyone for coming out to party with us on Friday in celebration of our 6th Anniversary. Buffalo's was hoppin' and rockin' and dancin' until the cows came home, and we wouldn't want it any other way. Steve's beads and glow sticks were a huge hit, and everyone seemed to have a great time. Woo-hoo!

I wanna run through the halls of my high school

Students at Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills, PA, had a surprise guest at their prom — singer John Mayer. Mayer's song Your Body Is A Wonderland had become sort of a theme for the senior class and senior class president Bob Costa had been working on getting Mayer for the prom for two years.

Happy 59th Birthday, Pete!

Pete Townshend is (IMHO) one of the greatest songwriters, guitar players and performers of the rock'n'roll era. Let's all tip a pint to a legend.

Here's a great article about Pete from Salon.com a few years back (1998).

So, are we in First Grade now?

It's hard to believe that it's been this long, but the MEB has been together since May 1998. That makes this our 6th birthday. So we're old enough to be in first grade, right?

It's been an incredible ride and we're looking forward to all the fun that's yet to come. With CD #4 in the works, you'll be hearing lots more from us over the next few months and years ahead.

We especially want to thank all of you for being so supportive and inspirational to us. Please join us this Friday, May 21 at Buffalo's on Rte. 31 in Baldwinsville, just off 690. It'll be our chance to show our appreciation and party with all of you.

See our Dates page for directions, starting time and more info.

I guess I'll have to go pick up a few Big Mac's so I can write the classic love song, "Can Your Butt Get Any Bigger?"

P. Diddy Disbands 'Da Band' - and we care because ...??

"The moral of the story is you have to take advantage of your opportunities and you have to give love to your craft," he said. "If you don't, you can achieve a dream, but it can also be dissolved."

This also reminds me how lucky we are that the MEB has been able to stay together for 6 years. Thanks to everyone for supporting us.

MEB Unplugged lights up the Bluewater Grill - B'ville

After a little last minute negotiations and some frantic phone work by Mike, our gig at PJ Dorsey's in Armory Square was cancelled, and we ended up doing an acoustic/unplugged couple of sets on the deck in B'ville.

It was nice spring/summer night, and with Fred's help we set up across from the bar and really had a good time. Thanks to Chad and Sue at the Bluewater for taking care of us, and it was nice to see friends and neighbors stop by for some food and drinks and music.

With Jeff on his way to VA for a wedding, the threesome of Mike, Steve and Paul soldiered on in his absence and played a cool, laid-back feel for the appreciative crowd. It really was an enjoyable night.

Don't forget our 6th Anniversary Party next weekend at Buffalo's. See ya then!

Real rock is on it's way back (or so they say ...)

This article is a little heavily tilted toward the old "it's only good if no one has heard of it" B.S., but it's still an interesting read.

And my favorite quote of the article: "If you tuned out on rock music a few years ago because you just couldn't stand to hear another Creed song, it's time to come back to the flock."

MEB Goes Acoustic!

And now for something completely different ...

This Thursday May 13, we will be at PJ Dorsey's in Armory Square as MEB... unplugged. Temporarily scaled back and a little laid back. No stage diving and no pyrotechnics, but just heartfelt, intimate tunes. We'll get started around 10:00 pm.

Congrats to Dani Gottuso - "Best Actress"!

Former MEB vocalist Dani Gottuso-Boudov was awarded the Best Actress - Community Theatre productions for her work with the Wit's End Players at the May 3 SALT (Syracuse Area Live Theatre) Awards. We always knew she made the right choice in leaving the band to pursue her acting career, and this puts an even bigger stamp of approval on it.

We're very proud of you, Dani. Congrats!!

Real Bad Band Names

We've got a pretty basic, straight ahead band name, but there are some crazy ones out there. The folks @ Metal Sludge (!?!) have collected a whole bunch of real band names that range from weird to crazy to disgusting. And it's highly entertaining.

Adult Content Warning:
some of these names are quite filthy and obscene, so be prepared.
